Government Healthcare will cut Costs!

Of course that is meant as a joke. Read on friend…

Here is a quote from an article ““Washington Lies” ” by Walter Williams that I posted September 12th.

“At its start, in 1966, Medicare cost $3 billion. The House Ways and Means Committee, along with President Johnson, estimated that Medicare would cost an inflation-adjusted $12 billion by 1990. In 1990, Medicare topped $107 billion. That's nine times Congress' prediction. Today's Medicare tab comes to $420 billion with no signs of leveling off. How much confidence can we have in any cost estimates by the White House or Congress?”

Also in the piece is another classic example of why we should not ever trust the federal government about anything. I will quote Mr. Williams article again.

““Another part of the Medicare lie is found in Section 1801 of the 1965 Medicare Act that reads: "Nothing in this title shall be construed to authorize any federal officer or employee to exercise any supervision or control over the practice of medicine, or the manner in which medical services are provided, or over the selection, tenure, or compensation of any officer, or employee, or any institution, agency or person providing health care services." Ask your doctor or hospital whether this is true.””

As pathetic as these two examples are what prompted the post today is this article on GIZMODO, the gadget blog. The headline “ Medicare Would Rather Buy an $8000 Computer than $150 iPhone App” .

Of course they would – it is the federal government, stupid! It’s not like they are spending their money, they are spending other people’s money (OPM).

The application is another wonderful example of what happens in a free market. Someone built an iPhone application with a text to speech function that helps people with autism communicate. Altogether, the iPhone and the app would be maximum $350, plus the service.

The sound logic of these BureauRATS is simply “the iPhone is not a uni-functional device”. The victims of autism could play a game, or call a doctor, or many other things where ever they happen to be.

The wisdom of our federal government has deemed the $8,000 laptop locked down so that the only program that operates is the text to speech program is the correct device for people suffering form autism. That is really compassionate.

If any of this surprises you, in anyway, your brain is missing.
